10 Dos and Don’ts with Botox
- Do choose a surgeon with at least more than one decade worth of experience. That means that they have had a lot of practice.
- Don’t visit flying-in surgeons in their hotel rooms to do treatments – it’s illegal and if anything goes wrong you have no protection from the health regulator.
- Do make sure you know which product your surgeon is using. Typically there is botox or dysport on the market.
- Don’t be afraid to tell the surgeon what you want. ie, more natural or just a little.
- Do go back within 10 days to your surgeon for a top up if needed.
- Don’t have a massage or a facial for the first 24-hours.
- Do tell your doctor if you have recently had other facial treatments like laser or fillers.
- Don’t use botox whilst pregnant or breastfeeding. Your practitioner should not be telling you otherwise.
- Do botox with practitioners that come highly recommended by friends. Botox results should last 3 – 4 months, not any less. There are surgeons who dilute the product that you are going back every month which is not ethical.
- Don’t be afraid to try it. If you don’t like it, the results are not permanent.
How does it work?
Botulinum toxin (shortened to botox) is a purified protein that blocks the nerve signs from the brain to the nerve endings (that tell you to frown). It paralyses the muscles and stops them contracting allowing the skin to smooth out over time. Some deeper lines may require 2 – 3 treatments to totally de-wrinkle at our Aesthetic Clinic Dubai.
