Breast Augmentation Dubai FAQ with Dr Viel

Many women think about getting a breast augmentation for years.  It’s rarely an overnight decision.  It’s the fear of the unknown that holds them back – which plastic surgeon, which hospital and the numbers of decisions they have to make.  However, when the surgery is done, they are over the moon and so happy.

We get Drs Maurizio and Roberto Viel to answer all your frequently asked questions.

What size should I get?

My brother and I believe in proportions.  The aesthetics of the breast should suit the body. There is no point putting large implants on a small body frame.  We contour it to make sure it looks good and natural – the implants are there to enhance the body not to make it look heavy and awkward.

Where does the breast augmentation dubai surgery take place?

The surgery takes places at our day surgical hospital based in Dubai Healthcare City.  We have a team of nurses and anaesthetists on board.

How long is the surgery?

The breast augmentation surgery takes 1 – 1.5 hours on average.

Is it under general anaesthesia?

Our surgeries are performed under sedation which is not the same as general anaesthesia.  There is no required breathing support, and the patients can return home the same day.  It’s like a twilight effect – our patients don’t anything but they are in a drowsy sleep.

Will I be able to go home the same day?

Yes, all our patients return home the same day.  Usually 3 – 4 hours post-surgery.

What’s the pain like?

Most patients who have experienced child birth don’t experience much pain.  It’s like when the milk first comes into the breast – its an engorging feeling.  Tender but not painful.  Patients who haven’t had children tend to feel it’s more sore but are still able to go home the same day and perform light activities.

Can I drive, drop my children to school, or when can I go back to work?

Due to the sedation, our patients are advised not to drive for at least 48 hours post surgery.  You can drop your children after 72 hours.  For work, it depends on the nature of the work.  If it is a desk job you can return to work after 72 hours but if it is a physical role then perhaps you might have to wait 10-days.

When can I swim again?

1 month after the breast augmentation surgery.

When do the stitches come out?

After 2 weeks.

When can I travel again?

The stitches are removed which is after 2 weeks and our patients can usually start travelling again.

When do I need to replace the breast implants?

Technology has come far these days.  Nowadays, there is a high quality breast implants that has a life-time warranty, and are made for life.  They are called ‘gummy bear’ implants.  They are made of highly-cohesive silicon gel and some even contain a microchip so the details of the implants can be scanned should there be a problem in the future.  The only reason patients may wish to change implants would be after they had children or because of ageing.  The implant size may be affected by the natural ageing process.  As we age, the breasts will continue to sag so patients may wish to increase a cup size to keep the breasts more youthful.

Do we place the breast implants above or under the muscle?

We as, cosmetic surgeons, can do both.  After 25 years experience, we see that breast augmentation dubai on top of the muscle gives better and more natural results.  The results over the years also looks better as it works with the natural breast tissue.

When can I exercise again?

You can begin lower body exercises after 2 weeks, but you cannot do any movements that require for the arms to be raised about shoulder height as it is will stretch the stitches.

Will there be a chance that the implants will rupture or leak?

In general, if you opt for high-quality implants or lifetime warranty implants this shouldn’t be a case.  If it happens, it is rare.  However, there are many patients that opt for cheap surgery.  Remember, good quality breast implants are like hand bags, the better the quality the more expensive they are.  Also, at our surgery, we only use highly-cohesive silicon implants.  If they do rupture, they silicon remains within the casing preventing any issues with leaking.
